The sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in the body and it runs from the hip area all the way down to the toes. When you have compression on this nerve you can usually feel a shooting pain that makes it hard to walk, much less do any kind of exercise. I myself have suffered from sciatica and my first response was to see my family care physician. The doctor offered me some pain medication and gave me some physical therapy exercises to do. Of course the pain medication made me feel better however after a few weeks and not taking the medication any more the pain continued to come back.
I decided to take another route and went to visit a local San Diego Chiropractor. He explained to me that one of my hips was lower than than the other and that was causing compression on my sciatic nerve. After a few weeks of adjustments and a series of exercises and stretches I started to feel relief. Plus I wasn’t having to take any medications which made me feel foggy and fatigued. My chiropractor also put a heel lift in one of my shoes to help bring my hips back to even levels. Remember when you are using natural methods of healing it may take a little more time but the results are well worth it
We all want to know different ways to have more energy through out the day. Sometimes getting 8 hours of sleep is not enough to get you through the day. I wanted to raise my energy levels to be more consistent through out the week and here are a few secrets I have incorporated into my daily habits.
I know you've heard it a thousand times but breakfast really is key to staying energized the first half of your day. However before I eat I do drink a cup of warm lemon water. Warm lemon water first thing in the morning helps to flush out toxins and get the body prepared to receive the nutrients from your breakfast. Smoothies are a great way to pack in fruits and vegetables, as well as keep you pretty full until your pre-lunch snack. Adding a scoop of your favorite plant based protein powder into your smoothie will allow you to get energy from the protein. I also prefer to use a non-dairy liquid to help mix up my smoothie such as coconut water or milk. The beautiful part about smoothies is you have so many options to mix.
Taking supplements is also an important part of staying energized. Although most of my diet comes from plant based foods there still may be nutrients I may be missing. I found a wonderful liquid vitamin I love that contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Using liquid instead of a capsule my body doesn't have to work as hard to break down the capsule.
Lastly, I encourage everyone to incorporate a daily meditation into their daily routine. Meditation can help to reduce stress and clear the mind. Sometimes when I am feeling my energy levels low meditation can help to reset my mind and body. It's almost as if 5 minutes of mediation replaces a 15-30 minute power nap.
